Naver Rolls Out Conversational AI Tab to All Users

Naver has formally launched its conversational search product AI Tab for every user on the Naver main page — not just Plus membership testers. That matters in a market where Naver still owns roughly half of Korean search and treats search as a portal, not a ten-blue-links page. If your Korea playbook still assumes the classic Integrated Search layout is the whole game, this is the product surface that will force a rewrite.

According to Naver’s 26 June 2026 press release, AI Tab replaces the old Green Dot entry point on both mobile and PC search boxes. Smart Lens stays next to the new button; music search moves inside AI Tab. The pitch is not “another answer box”. Naver is selling an agentic loop: explore a place, check the map, see live reservation slots, and book — without leaving the chat. That is a different conversion path from ranking a blog post and hoping for a click into a booking form.

Beta numbers look aggressive for two months of limited access: about 4 million cumulative users, product and place card CTRs above 20%, and heavy users (11+ visits) clicking products 2.7× and places 2× more than one-visit users. Take those with the usual vendor-metrics salt. Still, the direction is clear. For SEOs and advertisers in Korea, visibility is shifting toward cards and actions inside the AI surface, not just classic web results. Place data completeness, menu accuracy, live inventory, and review freshness become ranking-adjacent factors even when you never “rank” in the blue-link sense.

Naver also says it swapped in a “product-native” LLM tuned for ~50 million daily main-page visitors, with property and health agents planned later this year plus Whale browser support. Compare that to Google’s AI Mode or Yandex’s Alice dialog tab: same industry pattern — conversational escalation on top of search — but Naver’s vertical depth (booking, shopping, maps) is denser because the portal already owned those inventories. That is both opportunity and moat. Brands outside Naver’s first-party verticals will fight for card inclusion; brands inside them must treat feed quality as SEO.

Also covered by ZDNet Korea. Practical checklist for practitioners: audit Place and Shopping feeds weekly; instrument which queries open AI Tab versus classic Integrated Search; and do not confuse AI Tab CTR with organic blog CTR when you report to clients. They are different products wearing the same search box.

There is also an organisational implication agencies keep underestimating. AI Tab success metrics will not live in the same Looker Studio tile as classic blog organic. You will need Place impressions, shopping-card CTR, booking completions, and a clear rule for when a conversational session counts as assisted conversion. Without that, Korea reports will keep celebrating blue-link recoveries while the portal quietly moves demand into cards.

One more comparison: Google’s AI features still sit beside a web-index culture; Naver’s AI Tab sits on inventories Naver already merchandised. “Just write better content” is an incomplete brief in Seoul — feed ops, catalog hygiene, and agent-ready structured data are the workstreams now.
