Yandex Webmaster Recap: Alice Visibility Is Still the Metric SEOs Do Not Trust

The Yandex thread that still defines the argument is not from this week. On 7 April 2026, SearchEngines.guru’s “site visibility in Alice AI” filled with webmasters who had just found the Webmaster report under Efficiency and did not like it. There has not been a louder replacement thread since. The product moved on — open weights, free flagship chat, Foundation-80B — and the forum grievance stayed parked on that metric. An honest recap says so.

Yandex’s own documentation for visibility in Alice AI answers describes a weekly share-of-voice style view: where your pages show up in Alice answers, on which queries, against which competitors. The webmaster blog announcement framed it as analytics, not as a switch that sends leads. That distinction is the entire fight.

What the forum actually said

  • The opening post called the report a taunt: we took your copy, we will not send you leads. Several people replied that links already exist and users still do not need to click once the intent is answered.
  • Numbers, not vibes. One webmaster said average visibility around 40% and asked for click-through from neural answers. Later in the thread a finance site claimed about 45% AI visibility and roughly 20 visits from Yandex. Nobody treated that ratio as a reporting error.
  • A short-lived claim that television news had “ordered Yandex to add links within a week” died when others asked for proof. Links were already there. The complaint was the click, not the footnote.
  • The cynical consensus, put cleanly by one veteran, is that you cannot trace the metric to money, but you can sell “grow your Alice share of voice” as a line in a monthly PDF. Another camp says an AI quote with a source link is no more theft than a classic snippet. They have not convinced each other.

What changed around the metric, not inside the thread

Since April, Alice’s stack has become more Yandex-owned, including the from-scratch Foundation-80B base and broader free access to flagship chat with live citations. None of that gives Webmaster a revenue column. CIS SEOs who only watch this forum will miss the model news; SEOs who only watch model cards will miss that practitioners still consider the visibility report a vanity dial.

Opinion: use the report, and refuse to let it become the KPI. Log share of voice next to clicks and next to the queries where Alice answers without you. If a client wants the number to go up, the work is still ordinary: pages that are citable, current, and already visible in classic Yandex results, because the tool only describes queries you are in a position to appear on. The forum’s best line is also the briefing line. A metric you cannot follow to the till is a diagnostic. The moment an agency prices a retainer on lifting it, they have become the joke the thread already wrote.

What I would log alongside that April thread, until a newer one replaces it, is boring and sufficient. Each month, export Alice visibility, organic clicks, and the five queries where visibility is high and clicks are embarrassing. Write one sentence on whether the page answers the query in the first screen, because that is the mechanism the forum is describing, not a moral failure unique to Yandex. If visibility is zero, check ordinary indexation before you brief an “Alice optimisation” sprint. The SearchEngines.guru regulars are not confused about the order of operations. They are angry that the new chart does not pay rent. Report it that way and you will sound like the forum, which is the point of a recap, rather than like a model-release blog that never opens Webmaster.
