Yandex Adds Alice AI Dialog Mode Inside Search

Yandex Search now lets users flip from classic results into a full Alice AI dialog tab under the search box. Multi-turn chat, file and image uploads, persistent history — sitting beside the SERP rather than only as a one-shot quick answer. That dual-surface design is the part international SEOs should copy into their mental model: short answer under the query, deep dialog one tab across.

Yandex says the dialog runs on Alice AI LLM with local Russian-language context, while a lighter Alice AI Search model powers the expanded quick answers under the query bar. Company claims: quick-answer coverage jumped 1.5×, and blind tests favoured the new answers in 67% of comparisons versus the prior version. Source links stay attached. Later metrics put Alice quick answers at 49.5 million monthly users — so the dialog tab is not a toy bolted onto a niche feature.

This is the same product family as the open-sourced Alice AI Search pretrain and AI-Blender layout selection. For SEOs, the practical point is dual surfaces: citation-worthy passages for quick answers, and conversation-ready depth if users escalate into the Alice tab without leaving Search. A page that never ranks #1 can still feed Alice — or get skipped entirely when the dialog resolves the task alone.

Compare with Naver AI Tab (agentic booking/shopping) and Google AI Mode (chat escalation from Search): Yandex’s version is aggressively localised and already paired with mass quick-answer coverage. File/image upload inside Search also changes what “query” means — users can drop a contract photo or a screenshot and ask for help, which classic keyword tools will never see.

Caveats: vendor 67% win rates are not your vertical; dialog sessions may reduce clicks even when citations appear; and upload-driven queries will not show up in Wordstat. Log both quick-answer and dialog presence on money topics, keep source-linked explainers extractable, and teach clients that “we ranked” screenshots miss the tab where the real work happened.

Support and content ops should plan for upload-driven questions: product manuals, screenshots of error messages, photos of physical goods. If your help centre only ranks for tidy keywords, Alice dialog may answer from a competitor’s better-structured docs. Invest in media-accompanied explainers and explicit “what this photo shows” captions that survive multimodal retrieval.

Also coordinate with PR. Source links inside answers are a citation channel; being the calm, linkable explainer beats being the loudest blog when users escalate from a quick answer into dialog.

When dialog history persists, assume users arrive mid-thread — write sections that still make sense without the previous click path.
