Naver Powerlink ‘Phrase Generation’ Settings Open 11 November — and Shopping Ads Hit News and Main

Naver Ads spent 4–5 November lining up two more November changes that hit the results page and the surrounding inventory at once. Powerlink’s AI copy feature is back on the calendar under a new name — 문구 생성 (“phrase generation”), formerly AI 요약텍스트 — and shopping ads are about to show up in places that used to look more like content than commerce.

Korean trade coverage of the 4 November advertiser notice, including Today Marketing and Progress Solution’s 5 November briefing, matches on the dates. From Wednesday 11 November advertisers can toggle the feature at ad-group level under ADVoost Max creative generation. From Thursday 12 to Thursday 19 November Naver will test exposure on a slice of traffic and queries. Full launch timing depends on that test. Default is on for eligible ads; hospitals, medicines, medical devices, health foods and finance/insurance queries stay excluded.

What “phrase generation” actually does

Naver’s model reads the registered creative, the landing page and business-channel assets, then attaches an AI-written line beside the existing ad. It does not replace your headline wholesale, and you cannot edit the generated string by hand. During the test, that extra copy may appear above the creative, inside the title, beside the favicon, or in the promotional-text slot. Clicks on the generated area bill like normal Powerlink clicks and roll into the same click metrics. Rank and pricing rules are unchanged — Naver is careful on that point — but the SERP will look less like the copy you approved.

If your landing page still shows last month’s price or a lapsed promotion, that is now advertising copy Naver may paraphrase into the results. The notice warns that unlawful or inaccurate source material can get the ad stopped without prior notice. The practical checklist before 11 November is boring and necessary: refresh prices, dates and claims, then decide per ad group whether to leave the toggle on for the test window.

Shopping ads leave the shopping tab

The second notice, Naver Ads notice 35261 dated 4 November, is cleaner. From 11 November, Shopping Search ads (mall-product and catalogue types) and ADVoost Shopping also appear on:

  • Naver News mobile — feed under the article body
  • Naver Main mobile — 언론사편집 for non-subscribers, plus Entertainment and Sports

These are personalised recommendation placements based on shopping history, not a new search auction. Registration, ranking and billing stay the same; media exposure settings for News mobile and Main mobile need to be on. Budget pacing is the real risk — the same creatives suddenly have more surfaces that can spend.

How this fits the rest of Naver’s month

Put it next to the Place ads expansion and Powerlink favicon test that started 5 November, and the Shopping Click Expectation Index due 25 November. Every lever Naver is pulling this month either adds paid inventory, makes paid look more organic, or lets AI rewrite the paid text. Organic teams should watch phrase-generation screenshots during 12–19 November so they can tell an AI Powerlink line from a real title change. Paid teams should split News/Main shopping performance from classic shopping SERPs from day one, or the blended ROAS will lie to you.
