From late on 29 October, threads started piling up about Naver integrated search (통합검색, or “통검”). The reports say brand-new blog and café posts are jumping straight to the top, content that held top positions has dropped or disappeared, and some brand websites no longer show for their own names. Naver still hadn’t said anything about it by 2 November. Its last search blog update was the CSAT AI Briefing notice we covered on 27 October. So this is a community recap, not confirmed news.
“Since 11pm last night”
The clearest timestamp comes from “Naver search has a problem today, right?” (30 October, 370 views). The poster says things went wrong “after 11pm last night”, which is 29 October KST. Since then, low-ranked or previously unindexed content is ranking at the top, and pages that held top spots have vanished. They add that “indexing is normal” and suspect something went wrong “during a migration”, because Naver had said there was no ranking problem.
The same night, “Is Naver OK right now?” (29 October) reached 1,919 views and 33 comments on a single line: “Is this first page right?” Its comments load by script, so we couldn’t read them.
Fresh content ranks instantly
- “Will integrated search come back?” (30 October, 434 views, 6 comments) says people had adjusted to smart blocks disappearing. Since the change the night before, though, blog or café posts “go straight up as soon as they’re created”.
- “How is blog exposure for everyone?” (29 October) says the blog tab was “overhauled again” by the recent update. Integrated search placement now varies by keyword, from next day to one to two weeks. Some accounts see posts drop and then come back.
- “Seems to be normalising” (30 October) reads it more calmly. Results feel “forced”, but integrated search “wasn’t flooded with cafés after all”. One commenter says the blog tab’s latest sort still isn’t normal.
Cafés and “optimised blogs”
“The integrated tab is a headache” (29 October, 794 views, 8 comments) comes from someone who signed a one-month partnership with a “representative café” because it was ranking well. Now the café’s exposure seems to have stopped. They think “optimised blogs” (최블) are finished for good. A thread beside it claims the representative café exclusivity “appears to have been lifted”.
Brand websites missing
Perhaps the most worrying report is “My site isn’t showing on Naver” (30 October). Until 29 October, a brand’s English and Korean names both returned its website. By 30 October the English name returned nothing, and internal pages showed instead of the homepage. Search Advisor reported everything as normal. It sounds like a 27 October thread about a blog not appearing for its own brand name.
Bonus: an AI location micro-test
An i-boss GEO poster asked three AI engines 24 times where a Busan company is based. All three got the city right nearly every time. Exact addresses were much weaker for Gemini (4/9) and ChatGPT (2/9), and ChatGPT once gave a similarly named Seoul firm’s address. Tiny, but a reminder of how easily entities get mixed up.
My take
Context matters here. Naver’s 15 October change was officially a layout redesign, with no ranking change announced (Diorama’s summary). Since then the community has reported blog-tab reshuffles and website swings almost weekly. The 29 October reports are the sharpest so far, because people give a time and describe the same pattern: freshness overriding history.
The only official-adjacent signal came on the morning of 30 October, when News1 reported that some Naver Android app users could not get search results and content to display properly, and that Naver was investigating the cause. That is an app display fault rather than a ranking change, but it landed in the same window.
The ranking reports could reflect a rollback, a test bucket or a migration bug. Nobody has posted before-and-after rank data, and early forum threads over-report. Don’t rebuild a strategy on a couple of days of forum posts. Do check your brand-name SERPs in Naver now, in both Korean and English, and log where your homepage appears. If it has gone and Search Advisor says everything is fine, record it before you assume it is a bug.
