Naver’s ad notice board has been busy in the run-up to the N Ads rebrand on 4 November. Four notices posted or updated this week are worth a look for anyone running Korean search or shopping campaigns. One is about legal terms, one is a live shopping SERP test, one is a compliance deadline and one is a promotion.
1. N Ads terms: what changes on 4 November
Naver has published a notice on revised terms and operating policies to match the rebrand. From Wednesday 4 November, Naver’s ad service and the Advertiser Centre are renamed 네이버애즈 (N Ads). The terms of use, the operating policy, the search ads API terms and the performance display ads API terms are being updated to reflect that.
Most of it is housekeeping. The terms now separate the Advertiser Centre’s shared account-management functions from the “ad platform” that actually serves ads. The search ads API is defined around the search ads delivery area, and the display API terms state that it covers performance ads. The “premium log analysis service” is now described as the “conversion tracking service”. As is usual in Korea, advertisers who do not object before the effective date are deemed to have accepted. Anyone who does object has to tell Naver and close their account, or stop using the API.
If you have scripts, bidding tools or reporting connectors on the search ads API, nothing in the notice says the endpoints change. Still, I would check any internal documentation and contracts that name the old service and terms.
2. Mobile shopping collection length test, round three
The more interesting notice for search is the mobile shopping collection test, updated on 27 October with a third round. On part of its mobile integrated search traffic, Naver is testing how many products the shopping collection shows in total. The “collection length” is being optimised per query based on user response, alongside the existing per-keyword optimisation of where ads sit and how many there are.
The schedule so far:
- Round 1: 17–24 September
- Round 2: 15–22 October
- Round 3: Friday 30 October to Friday 6 November
It covers shopping-intent queries on part of mobile traffic. Naver says ad registration, rank calculation and billing are unchanged for Shopping Search Ads and ADVoost Shopping. It also notes that when a personalised block appears under the shopping collection, the old two-row layout drops to a single row.
3. Liquor ads need a drink-driving warning from 9 November
An update on liquor ad warnings (revised 28 October) reflects changes to Korea’s health promotion rules. From 9 November, alcohol ads must show all three warnings together: health risk, drink-driving risk and drinking-in-pregnancy risk. There are also colour and contrast rules for the warning box. This applies to ads registered before the deadline too. Existing ads have to be edited and resubmitted for review, and Naver is explicit that liability sits with the advertiser.
4. Digital out-of-home refund extended to November
Finally, Naver has extended its digital out-of-home promotion. Advertisers spending at least ₩1,000 a month get 100% back as biz coupons, up to ₩300,000 a month, until the end of November or until the budget runs out. Hospitals and clinics are now allowed, on indoor screens only. IPTV has been added through B tv, Genie TV and U+tv, covering around 20 million households, on top of roughly 359,000 screens across 2,510 legal dong.
Our take
The collection-length test is the one to watch. Naver is no longer just optimising how many ads go in the shopping block. It is optimising how big the block is per query, while also running the Click Expectation Index switch on 25 November. With a high evidence threshold, I would not blame every mobile shopping traffic swing between 30 October and 6 November on this test. It is a partial-traffic test, and Naver has not shared results. But if your organic web or blog results sit below the shopping block on commercial queries, annotate those dates in your reporting and compare mobile against PC.
The pattern is familiar from Google Shopping. The SERP itself is becoming the variable being tuned on user response, and November is crowded for Naver advertisers: N Ads on the 4th, liquor warnings on the 9th and the quality index changes on the 25th.
